Python Racing Team was setup in 2001 and is now in its 9th season. In the years since the team was formed it has expanded from 2 to 12 riders and has achieved considerable success. In 2008 the team notched up over 10 wins and will continue in 2009 to target regional road races and time trials. The 6th edition of the Python Racing Team Summer Road Race will be promoted on 16th August 2009.

Latest News: 17th August 2009 *** Win for Dan *** Dan rode the Kings Lynn 25 on Sat 15th August – on a windy day he clocked a time of 55.26 which was too good for the rest of the field. Also, on the same day, Mark Jervis came 2nd in the Older Mans RR.

6th July 2009 *** 5 Wins for Dan*** Dan has been training and racing hard recently, and has recorded a number of wins. The biggest win was in the Peterborough CC Race sponsored by Baxter and King Construction – he attacked early on with 2 others and they then stayed away for the remainder of the race and at the finish there was only ever to be one winner … Dan. Elsewhere both Nige and MarkJ are going well – on 5th July Nige was 7th in the London Dynamo race and MarkJ was 4th in the Finchley RT organised Paul Simon Homes Road Race.

24th February 2009 Members of the team have been training hard over winter and will start competing again in early March – see the calendar page for more detailed information. The results page will be updated as soon as the results start coming in!

14th September 2008 *** Win for Dan*** Dan took the win in front of a small but good quality field in the John Walker Memorial RR. Well supported by Nige in the final 8 man selection, Dan then showed he was the fastest sprinter. Win number 8 – obviously I missed a few on here but it was getting repetitive … I could write a few more words but hear it from the man himself in his Blog section (I’ve shortened it from the original 1000 words).

14th August *** Win for Darren*** Darren won the midweek Eelmore crit to move up to 2nd cat in style. Nige took 5th in the Barrie Elcombe Memorial Road Race.

3rd August *** Win for Dan*** In a strong team showing Python took a 1-2 in the Worcester Evening News road race. Nigel made the early move of 9 riders and then Chris and Dan bridge across in a similar sized group to give Python a strong representation in the front group. Nigel then attacked with Ben Anstie and then Dan jumped across with Steve Dring to form the winning 4-man group. Dan jumped early on the finishing hill and just held off Nigel on the line to give the team a great result.

22nd July Dan took 2nd in the Masters 35-39 national championship. In a strong team showing both Nige and Dan made it into a group of 12 that forged an early and then Dan made it into the decisive split only to lose out to Martin smith (AW Cycles) in the final sprint.

14th July 2008 Justin and Mark have both regained their 2nd Category Licences recently. Justin did his through doing the ride of the day at the Dave Ryan Memorial RR – attacking solo early on he stayed away until within sniffing distance of the winning line when a 4 man chasing group came past him on the steep uphill approach. At least this time it was not a team mate that took the win from him and 5th on the day sealed his 2nd cat. Mark went back to 2nd cat status after taking 4th from a 4 man break that just about managed to stay clear of the chasing bunch in the popular Oakley Village RR.

29th June 2008 ***Win for Dan (5th for Python)***

Dan and Nige rode the well-organized Shaftesbury road race held on a circuit featuring a tough climb. Both Nige and Dan got into the winning move the hard way – they missed the original 10 man split but then got across in a group of 6 after some serious chasing. Feeling strong Dan attacked with 20 miles left and only Martin Smith (AW Cycles) was able to go with him. A lap later and Dan sensing Martin weakening and the break coming back attacked again to take the win in style.

25th June 2008 ***Win for Steve*** Steve led a Python 1-2 when he out-sprinted Justin and the rest of the 6 man break at Eelmore. The Python put all 3 riders into a 6 man break that developed soon after half distance and then with a tactical advantage drove it to ensure it stayed away. MarkW led out the sprint with Justin on his wheel and it looked like Justin would take the win until Steve edged past in the final burst to the line.

15th June 2008 ***Win for Dan*** Dan chalked up Python’s third win of the season in the NCRA RR – attacking by himself he held on to take the victory alone and in style.

8th June 2008 ***Win for Mark*** Mark won the Kenton RC support race (Ginger Smallwood Memorial) – he went away with one other with a lap to go and they held a 30 sec gap to the finish where Mark out-sprinted his breakaway companion. In the main race Dan and Nige both got into the early 12 man move which stayed away to the finish. Both Nige and Dan were attacking but the group kept on coming back together but coming over the top of the climb for the last time Nige got away only to be caught shortly before the finish. Dan showed a good sprint to take 3rd whilst Nige came in 10th. Good teamwork which on another day might have had an even better result.

26th May 2008 ***Win for Dan*** Dan won the opening stage of the SERRL 3-day stage race and successfully defended his lead over the next 2 days to take the overall vistory! Nice one Dan!

12th May 2008: Nige, Dan and the rest of the team gave a really strong performance in the Lea Valley RR – Nige and Dan both made it into 6-strong selection only for Dan to puncture – he still went on to finish 8th but we lost our numerical advantage. Nige went on to finish an excellent 2nd behind a super strong Phil Hetzel (Ipswich BC).

8th May 2008: Nige has continued his string of top 10 placings taking 6th in the Twickenham and 8th in the AW Cycles RR. Darren scored a 3rd in the Eelmore criteriums and is now starting to move towards his 2nd cat. Dan and Justin have also been in the results too.

14th April 2008: The team have kicked of their season. On Saturday 12th April the team was launched at Blenheim Palace – photo’s will appear on the website shortly. Results so far this year include a 3rd for Mark, a 6th for Darren and a 10th for Nige. A number of the team are starting to go well and it shouldn’t be long before we see further placings.
